Programming and Community Outreach (PCO) Intern
The PCO Intern assists with creating and initiating a Programming and Community Outreach plan that incorporates:
- Surveying community members and organizations to determine educational and programmatic needs
- Developing the Programming and Community Outreach Plan using formal and informal surveys and outcomes/evaluation techniques
- Identifying organizations that wish to collaborate with KVAH in programming, or use their services in planning programs themselves
- Assisting with and carrying out programs for youth, adults and the community
- Putting out a call for artists and assisting with the scheduling of eight exhibits per year as part of the Second Fridays Follow the Dotte Artwalks
- Assisting with the preparation of the gallery for exhibits, and the facilitation of the Artwalks
- Assisting with the planning and facilitation of the Annual Holiday Sale in November
- Attend Mid-sized Arts Organization bi-monthly meetings with Executive Director and/or represent her when she cannot attend.
- Schedule teachers/workshop leaders and dates for programs for which PCO Intern is responsible
- Do site visits to learn current techniques for exhibiting from other galleries
- Do site/facility visits to locate appropriate facilities for conducting workshops
- Assist Executive Director in working with the five Wyandotte school districts to showcase their visual and performing arts to the community.
- Attend Downtown Shareholders Arts Committee meetings and work with them on KVAH/Shareholders arts events including the Artwalks, the annual Arts, Beats and Eats Festival and the planning and facilitation of an Urban Culture Project development of Minnesota Avenue
- Assist the Executive Director with collaborative classes conducted by Kansas City Arts Institute for the betterment of the Kansas City, KS environment and downtown area
- Attends trainings and professional development at the annual KC Philanthropy Conference, Kansas Arts Commission trainings (e.g. Program Planning and Evaluation / Successful Arts-in-Education Strategies) and other professional development/training)
- Participates in staff reading assignments/discussions in leadership and skill building
- Assists the ED with maintaining selected gallery hours
All Interns will:
- Assist with activities and events that require the attention of all KVAH employees, volunteers and interns in order to facilitate a successful event or project. Two examples of these activities are: 1) preparing for Artwalk exhibits, especially on the day of the exhibits, 2) attending and participating in the Annual Shine and Dine Competition for grant money in which employees, volunteers and board members plan a presentation about KVAH
- Assist with any other activities that may be of importance to the well-being and growth of KVAH.
